In this article, you will learn how to assign licenses in our legacy Live Chat platform.
Important: This article does not apply to our modern Messaging platform. If you are using Messaging, you have CPI Billing enabled. This means that you are billed for actual usage instead of per-user (per-seat) licenses. You can have as many users and bots as you want, without having to assign licenses. However, if you create a new organization you need to contact our Sales team (global-sales@cba-japan.com) to have CPI Billing extended to that organization.
In our legacy Live Chat platform, each user and bot needs a named user license. This applies regardless of role, such as agent, supervisor, or administrator.
You can assign licenses in the Admin Portal. After you log in, click the Manage Licenses button to access the Billing Portal.
Go to the Entitlement tab. You can then assign your Available Seats to an organization by adding them to the Available box in your organization. Then click Save.
After you have Available licenses allocated to your organization, you can assign a license to a named user. The license is assigned automatically when you enable a user following the steps in the How to Create a Live Assist User article. The Available licenses will decrease, and the In Use licenses will increase accordingly.

Allocating Sufficient Licenses before ending a Trial
When Licenses are applied to an Organization under Trial, the Trial period will end. We recommend that you apply enough licenses to cover the users that already have a license allocation using a trial license. Alternatively, to avoid a situation where you have more seats in use than available licenses, you can deallocate users via the Admin Portal before applying your full licenses.
Assigning Licenses after a Trial has expired
It's currently not possible to access the Billing Portal once your Trial has expired. This means that if you did not purchase licenses, you cannot allocate new ones to your organization via the Billing Portal without help from Customer Support. We will happily extend your trial if needed, so you can administer your licenses across your tenancy.
Assigning Licenses Across Multiple Organizations
Licenses are applied at the Tenancy level, meaning they have to be allocated to each organization. Further details can be found in the Billing Portal Article.
